Adolph's Ripe Mangoes

Adolph's Ripe Mangoes

Dear KPZ google group

Right now, with the warm weather and the right conditions most of the tropical fruits are getting ripe.

There are mangoes galore this year. Last night I went to a friend’s home for a dinner/party. It was a small gathering of their close friends to celebrate their 30th Wedding anniversary. And guess what was for dessert? Here is a list of what was made:

  1. Mango Mouse
  2. Mango Kulfi
  3. Mango Ice cream
  4. And of course, ripe mangos to eat plainly with flesh scooped out with a spoon. After dinner following the dessert, liquor and coffee/tea we were invited to help ourselves to the mangos they had harvested from their one tree. As you would imagine very few helped themselves. What was left the hosts will peel of the cheeks today and they will be frozen for the winter months.

You see there is so much fruit on the trees for the next two weeks, it is either a feast or a famine. We have to take them off soon. In my case because I have a nature reserve next to my small block I have the additional problem of crows and ravens wanting to have their share too. This morning I will spend some time in the garden with a long extended pole with a metal cage to pluck the mangoes on the top of the tree. Attached is a photo.

Also my fig tree has started giving fruits. Here is a photo.

I am at war with the crows/ravens who are after my mangoes

Few mangoes because I have pruned but here just part of a crop
from one tree.

Mango season nearly over.
Have to take these off before the Ravens get them.
